INSPECTION OF ENGINEERING DEVELOPMENT BOARD (EDB)

Engineering Development Board (EDB) was established in 1995, a professional body with objectives to indigenize imported items through reverse engineering with technology transfer in manufacturing sectors. The primary mandate assigned to the Board is policy formulation and implementation for facilitating and encouraging development & growth of the Engineering Industry of the country. Subsequently, in 1997 it was decided that EDB shall also function as an apex autonomous body for the formulation of policy and decision making in all aspects concerning to Engineering Industry.

 

On the orders of Prime Minister’s directives, the Inspection of Engineering Development Board was undertaken within the given Terms of References (ToRs).

 

In this regard, the summary and detailed report furnished to PM’s Office after incorporating the views and comments of M/o Industries & Production and EDB on the findings & recommendations of PMIC, was approved by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Pakistan. Accordingly, the same was forwarded to M/o Industries & Production and EDB for implementation.

PMIC through M/o Industries & Production and EDB takes pride and bring on record the progress achieved on the recommendations made by PMIC, as detailed below:

* The goal oriented approach by clearly defining KPIs to strengthen the engineering sector and integrate it with world market for economic growth has been incorporated in EDB’s Performance Agreements made with M/o Industries & Production for the Financial Years 2021-22 & 2022-23.

 

* A project titled “Strengthening the Engineering Industry” has been approved which mainly envisages the capacity building of the organization by inducting core experts in various fields to enable the organization for an effective policy formulation and its implementation.

 

* EDB service Rules were concurred by relevant stakeholders / Ministries / Divisions and are under-process at M/o Industries & Production.

 

* A detailed Annual Performance Report on the Financial Year 2021-22 activities has been complied for the first time and will be published in current year.

 

* EDB’s Directory of Engineering Goods Exporters and a list of Exportable Engineering Items has been published.

 

* To decrease in imports of automobile sector, a new auto policy namely “Automotive Industry Development and Export Plan (AIDEP) 2021-26” has been approved mainly focusing on Localization, Exports and Consumer Protection.

 

* A mechanism is being devised to address the Grievances. In this regard, Application Development Team is currently developing a web-based system for resolution of the reported grievances.
