MONITORING EVALUATION & INSPECTION OF PSDP (NAI GAJ DAM PROJECT DADU, SINDH)

On the orders of Prime Minister’s directives, the Chairman PMIC constituted a PM Inspection Team (PMIT). The project titled “Nai Gaj Dam Project, Dadu, Sindh” was selected by PMIT as per ToRs assigned.

 

The primary objective of Nai Gaj Project is to provide the irrigated agriculture development to cultivable command area of 28,800 acres besides flood protection of the downstream area, assure water supply to Manchar Lake and lower riparian, fisheries development, recharge of ground water and socio-economic uplift of the poor community of the area. The original PC-I was approved by ECNEC on 03.09.2009 at a cost of Rs. 16.924 billion. Later on, ECNEC approved the 1st Revised PC-I at a rationalized cost of Rs. 26.236 billion on 16.08.2012. The sponsoring ministry is Water Resources and the project is being executed by Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).

 

The summary and detailed report furnished to PM’s Office after incorporating the views and comments of M/o Water Resources on the findings & recommendationsof PMIC, was approved by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Pakistan. Accordingly, the same was forwarded to M/o Water Resourcesand Planning, Development & Special Initiative Division for implementation.

 

PMIC through M/o Water Resources and Planning, Development & Special Initiative Division takes pride and brings on record the progress achieved on the recommendations made by PMIC, as detailed below:

 

* A fresh survey of the State Land falling under the reservoir areas was carried out jointly by WAPDA and Revenue Department, Government of Sindh. The same has been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, District Dadu for further processing.

 

* The case of fake guaranty is closed by Banking Mohtasib on the plea that they cannot entertain any complaint which is sub-judice in any court of law; however Project Office has filed Representation before Hon’ble President of Pakistan.Hon’ble President of Pakistan has set aside the decision of the Banking Mohtasib and subsequently, WAPDAauthority has requested Banking Mohtasib for taking further necessary action. The response of Banking Mohtasib is awaited.

 

* The economic viability of the project was re-ascertained by the M/o Planning, Development & Special Initiative and accordingly, the updated 2nd Revised PC-I was approved by ECNEC on 11.03.2021 at a capital cost of Rs. 47.732 billion with implementation period upto June, 2025.
